PREGNANCY – GIVING BIRTH/LABOR – ANXIETy (PANIC ATTACKS)?

I suffer from Anxiety (Panic Attacks) & a little bit of Depression & i have already had 1 child but that was before i had these 2 conditions & i want to fall pregnant again but because now i suffer from Anxiety (Panic Attacks) i am scared that i will get bad panic attacks at the last weeks of my pregnancy just because i know i will get braxton hicks & i have heard when you get braxton hicks you cant breathe propley? & the last time i was in labor with my first child i was really nervous & scarred & worried but now cause i suffer from Anxiety im scarred it will increase my panic attacks cause of braxton hicks & when im in actual labor? should i tell the midwifes that i suffer from Anxiety (Panic Attacks) what will they do iff i freak out that much & get an attack? Cause with me .. it takes the littliest thing to ”trigger” me off to get a panic attack im worried this will effect my pregnancy? im not sure how do you think i will go? Please helo me out here.

I just had my second child and also have anxiety issues. I was very weary about labor because my Braxton Hicks would remind me of my first labor experience. However, when I actually went into my real contractions, there was one thing that absolutely saved me. The nurse there was so extremely calm and comforting and an incredible breathing coach. She had me focus on her voice and that’s all I did was focus on her instructions to breathe. It got me through what would have been horrific pain and up to 5 cm dilated when I got my epidural and didnt need her anymore. This will seriously help you if you can get someone to be a great breathing coach. (Just as a side note, I had such horrific anxiety during my first childs contractions that I asked for and got morphine. ) The nurse helped me much more. I don’t think it was even "fair" how easy my labor ended up being. It was all about gaining that control over my pain so it didn’t take control of me. Good luck and take my advice!

    First take a really deep breathe and just breathe. I would most certainly let the midwife or nurse know that you have panic attacks and they will help you(that is what they are there for). Braxton hicks are not as bad as you think they are just think heartburn. Also every pregnancy is different. Just voice your concerns to your OB/GYN and they will help you through. When you do go into labor you are most likely be fine because this time you know what to expect(I was scared my first time). Just keep telling yourself that God will never give you more than he knows you can handle just remember that God believes in you and that you CAN do it.
