PREGNANCY – GIVING BIRTH – ANXIETy (PANIC ATTACKS)?
I suffer from Anxiety (Panic Attacks) & a little bit of Depression & i have already had 1 child but that was before i had these 2 conditions & i want to fall pregnant again but because now i suffer from Anxiety (Panic Attacks) i am scared that i will get bad panic attacks at the last weeks of my pregnancy just because i know i will get braxton hicks & i have heard when you get braxton hicks you cant breathe propley? & the last time i was in labor with my first child i was really nervous & scarred & worried but now cause i suffer from Anxiety im scarred it will increase my panic attacks cause of braxton hicks & when im in actual labor? should i tell the midwifes that i suffer from Anxiety (Panic Attacks) what will they do iff i freak out that much & get an attack? Cause with me .. it takes the littliest thing to ”trigger” me off to get a panic attack im worried this will effect my pregnancy? im not sure how do you think i will go? Please helo me out here.

I got ALOT of braxton hicks with my little boy but never once felt that I couldn’t breathe properly so I wouldn’t worry about that. Also, if you arrange to have plenty of support during your labour and late pregnancy this should ease the pressure on you and try not to worry because more than likely this will increase your attacks. I don’t know how you feel about C sections but it may be worthwhile discussing this with your midwife too if you feel having more control will help. Speak to the midwife too about pain relief options, you probably wont want anything that will alter how you feel, your perception ect. Best of luck.

i got pregnant with my daughter when i was 19 and through out my 2nd trimester i suffered with depression. pregnancy naturally puts stress on your body and to have panic attacks on top of that isnt healthy to you or your baby. i would try to get these attacks under control before trying to get pregnant again. being nervous and worried or even a little panicky is again natural but if its a condition on its own even before the pregnancy i would be cautious. definitely talk to your midwife for suggestions to help calm these conditions.

yes you should tell your midwife that you suffer from anxiety in fact i went for my first appointment with my midwife the other day and they actually do a survey on anxiety and depression to make sure that they can give you the best advice and care possiable. I think you should make an appointment with your doc and talk to him or her about your plans for a future child and some of your worries that way you can have all the information before you get pregnant. I always find that being well informed can make a huge difference in my worries and anxiety about being pregnant. This is my first child and i have found all the doctors to be great i have asked some pretty silly and out there questions and have never been made to feel dumb. The best thing to do is be open and honest to your health care providers that way they can care for you anxiety and all :) hope this helps

Anxiety and stress can absolutely affect your pregnancy. There is no doubt you should tell your midwives all of this. Believe it or not there may be some medication they can give you late in pregnancy to help and you can probably continue afterwards to help with depression. I am someone who suffered hugely from anxiety while pregnant–terrible fear of doctors, medical stuff, interference with natural process, etc. So it was critical that I tell my midwives all of this.
As for Braxton-Hicks contractions, they might or might not have you a little out of breath. It’s usually not a problem. Labor itself is hard work and there are some great CD’s out there that you can buy and listen to that can help with calming down and remaining calm. Anxiety and fear and the greatest enemies of labor can cause you a much more painful labor than usual. I had one labor in high anxiety, then learned some relaxation techniques for the second and third kids. I am telling you that being calm, fear-free and centered make a HUGE difference in how labor goes and how uncomfortable it is.
Remember that you don’t have to be a victim of your panic attacks and to ask for help finding ways to master this–for yours and your baby’s sake! Talk, talk, talk to your midwives; the wonderful thing about midwives is just how much they understand and care about matters like this. Buy a notebook and begin to write, write, write about everything you’re scard of, what bothers you, etc. Getting stuff like that out of your system can do wonders!

It’s not music like you’re probably used to and might take a little adjustment to the strangeness of it. But they work great. I listened to one of them at night to help me from panic attacks at night and had another one for keeping myself calm and centered during labor. Though it’s been a couple of years and I gave them to a friend, so I can’t remember exactly which ones I had.
