I have servere panic attacks when I try to sleep. How do I get over them until I get a doctor’s appointment?

try taking something safe over the counter like Tylenol PM.. I have panic attacks too.. you need to be put on like Prozac or Paxil.. something that will cure it long term.. My doctor has me on Lorezapam and it definitely takes the anxiety off like in 15 minutes.. BUT I have become addicted to it which is not good and trying to ween my way off of it.. the prozac/paxil should help with all of it in the long run.. I would suggest asking the doc for Lorezapam only for like a month until the Prozac kicks in… it works wonders…. it makes you a little tired until you get use to it..but sounds like that would be perfect for you…

just calm yourself, and face the source of the problem, and maybe take a sleep aid to make you fall asleep faster, the quicker you fall asleep the less time to panic

It sounds like you have a fear of dying, never waking up. Death is not the worst thing that can happen to you. You have to conquer your fears or they will conquer you. I don’t have the real answer but I gave it a shot.

instead of tylenol PM which has an analgesic as well as an anticholergenic, try benadryl. depending on your age, body type, health, and other meds, 1-2 tabs diphenhydramine hcl 25mg about 30 minutes before bed.

thats not all… u cant ignore the cognitive component of panic or insomnia. try thinking of a word, a pleasant word like peace… focus only on that idea… what it means, how it feels… let yourself fall into your contemplation… simple meditation works wonders…

interesting to know what triggers the panic episodes for you?

  25. The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

  27. This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

DO NOT TAKE TYLENOL PM if you are prone to panic attacks. I took just one and, twelve hours later, in the middle of the day, I thought I was having a heart attack. It came out of nowhere. I had nothing else out of the ordinary, diet-wise or work-wise, prior to the attack so it is, without a doubt, something in that OTC that caused the attack. It was terrible. Some, like me, take a while to clear medications from their systems. Residual effects can last days. This is a fact. Tylenol does not want this getting out, believe me. Go ahead and Google, “Tylenol PM causes panic attacks,” and after clicking on links that come up, you will find all articles about it have mysteriously disappeared. This is no joke. Do your own research although, as mentioned, you will have a tough time finding anything about the subject.
