Are they lessened by the medication?
Unfortunately, yes. Particularly the 2-4 weeks after you begin medication. Some anxiety sufferers have reported their symptoms are even worse than before during this time.
If you’ve been taking the medication beyond 6 weeks and you’re still not feeling better than before, you should consider letting your doctor/psychiatrist know. S/he may discuss a different medication with you.
Sadly, it’s rare that anxiety and/or depression sufferers will recover completely from their affliction via medication alone, although a combination of therapy and medication can produce a full recovery, or remission.
Is this panic disorder, is it healthy, unhealthy, or a sign of deeper emotional issues?
It is a panic disorder called agoraphobia. It can cause some people to be disabled. I worked with a man who has this disorder and he had to get help in order to get to work for the first few weeks. He had difficulty going anywhere unfamiliar. He was fine at work after he had his commute and responsibilities embedded as routines. Then, his reponsibilities changed and he resigned. He did not seek regular treatment and that was his downfall. People with anxiety disorders should take meds so they can function in society. Too many people attach a stigma to this. If you have heart problems, you take pills. If you have a cold, you take pills. It should be the same if you have a brain problem. You take pills and you feel better.
Most times I don’t even realise I have them till someone says something. It is embarrassing. Yes, I have a medical condition.
put your mind on a nice beach somwhere and drift off. helps me somtiimes.
For as long as I can remember, going to church always scared me. I would get weak in the knees, hot, and panic would set it. Now that I am older and never go, I sometimes get waves of the feeling of hopelessness and calm, then start crying uncontrolably, when church is thought of or I hear religious songs (like holidays, on tv, etc) What is wrong with me?
You have panic attacks, it’s caused by anxiety, see your doctor and get some xanax.

I’m prone to anxiety and around the period they seem to get worse. sometimes I’m lucky if I’m not too stressed, but definitely the hormones make it worse
Hi well all day today i have been quiet, mellow, and sad. I was at one of my afterschool activities cuz i felt bothered and irritated (my stomach wasnt feeling well so i went home early). Well im feeling like how i usually feel when i start to get panic attacks.. im feeling tired, drained, slow and sad. What can i do to make sure i DONT get a panic attack? Is there anything i can do?
Hi, Yes there are many things you can do to avoid panic attacks but I would look at treatment as soon as possiblw as they can get worse and worse and more severe as you grow older.
Try to wotk out why you have panic attacks in the first place? What brings them on?
Stress is a common cause of panic and anxiety and if you are under a lot of stress at the minute this could be the main cause but there are many other thinsg that can cause attacks and you need to work out what causes yours!
Once you know this you can then do many things to try and control and avoid them such as breathing exercises, healthy lifestyle and stress management!
In my source there is a link to a very informative article that may help you to avoid panic attacks!

Also why do you get them? I tend to get them if i stand up to quickly. I’m never actually ‘panicking’ when they happen. Why are they called panic attacks?
you breathe excessivly, called hypoventilating, a paper bag to blow in calms this down, excessive sweating pains in middle of chest or under ribs mimicing a heart attack
you can get them under stress, emotional truama, nervousness.
I just discovered that when I try to think about changing my circumstances I have a momentary loss of memory and my heart starts racing, I have to breathe harder. I loose my concentration, forget what I was thinking about and start doing something different like simple distractions. I have just, just realised this has been happening for years and explains a great deal about my life. I really need to know how to stop it. Thanks
I have had panick attacks too since I am a teen-ager. I learned how to cope with them but sometimes they come back.
Here is what helps me:
1. Take long, deep breaths. It slows the heart beat. I used to feel a warmth throughout my whole body, this is normal.
2. Drink Orange Blossom (very hot) or Valeriane herbal tea. It helps relax before you go to bed.
3. Take a hot bath. It knocks me right out.
4. Listen to self-hypnosis tape. It saved me from insanity many times. It is called "Relieves Stress and Anxiety" and you can find it at www.thepotentialsunlimited.com
When I had surgery last year I panicked again because I had weird reactions to pain killers and I listened to it about 4 times a day. I was glad I still had it after 15 years !!!
5. Get into meditation and yoga classes. You will learn A LOT of relaxation techniques. Or you can get a book on it.
6. Self-help classes would also help. Panick attacks are the result of repressed emotions and I am pretty sure if you dig inside yourself you will find stuff that will amaze you.
My panick attacks were the result of me, as a child, not knowing in which kind of a mood my alcoholic dad would be when he got home.
7. As weird as it sounds, stay away from refined sugar and coffee.
8. Stay away from negative people.
9. Do physical exercise. It stimulates the endorphins in your brain, endorphins are the pleasure hormone that are released when you exercise, listen to music or do pleasant activities.
10. Find your passion or a hobby. Me, it was martial arts. It kept me busy enough to stop worrying. Life is much better when you are working towards a goal that you have at heart.
has anyone else been in this situation? what do I do as far as labor and delivery? help please.I told my doctor(OB) about it and she doesnt seem to be paying much attention to it
you need to go see another dr because you can die from pregnancys and that sound like a very bad one could be something wrong with baby get it checked by a professional dr your one sounds like a dick only worried about the pay check
try taking something safe over the counter like Tylenol PM.. I have panic attacks too.. you need to be put on like Prozac or Paxil.. something that will cure it long term.. My doctor has me on Lorezapam and it definitely takes the anxiety off like in 15 minutes.. BUT I have become addicted to it which is not good and trying to ween my way off of it.. the prozac/paxil should help with all of it in the long run.. I would suggest asking the doc for Lorezapam only for like a month until the Prozac kicks in… it works wonders…. it makes you a little tired until you get use to it..but sounds like that would be perfect for you…
