I have been having really bad panic attacks and I am trying to find a doctor to see for treatments. My question is can I see an Otolaryngologist for panic attacks?
See a shrink(Psychiatrist) or your GP
I need to get a job and get on with my life, but how can I do that when simply driving to the store sends me on a hellish fit of fear and panic? I cant even get to the doctors easily….
If you were once a sufferer and found treatment, your opinion would be most valid.
YES!!!
I take klonopin and prozac……they have been life savers. go see a psychiatrist, they know the meds, if they arent working, what to switch you to next, if need be.

I have fought panic attacks for over 40 years and am more
than tired of all the different doctors from all fields of practice.
I have even had doctors now-a-days tell me you’ve had this
long that no treatment can help ! Any ideas are better than
theirs. Thanks
Hi! I’m so sorry to hear you’re feeling bad. I wouldn’t take any notice of those doctors. I had panics for 15 years (not anywhere near 40 admittedly) and I found a profound change as soon as I started Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. The key to making it work for me was really working and sticking at it. The following 3 steps eliminated my panic attacks:
1.Breathe properly – if you control your breathing, you control panic. As soon as you notice the signs of anxiety, check your breathing: breathe in slowly through your nose pushing your tummy out (to the count of 5 or so). Breathe out slowly and for a bit longer (to the count of 7 or so) through your mouth. Do not breathe rapidly or shallowly (in the chest area). This will soon restore the balance of oxygen and you will feel a lot better.
2. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy! CBT is proven to be the most effective thing for panic attacks and social anxiety. It takes a bit of work, but it is super effective. You can speak to your doctor about taking a course or you can take a course for free online at: http://www.livinglifetothefull.com/elear… It has been funded by NHS Scotland and has had great results thus far.
3. Try relaxation exercise tapes (progressive muscular relaxation). They really help if you practise often enough. This site has instructions on how to do it without the tapes (and other useful info): http://www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/resource…
I hope this helps and you feel better soon. Don’t give up hope! Best of luck!

I have had panic attacks and generalized anxiety for awhile now and I get short of breath and have chest pains. I have been to the er and my family dr. many times and they all say that my chest pain and tachycardia is due to panic/anxiety. I am having a hard time believeing this! So, do the beta blockers work and how long are they usually prescribed for this and how long do they take to work? I still am havong symptoms. I am also just starting effexor xr 150mgs. Any advice would be helpful!
You need to buy the book, prescription for nutritional healing written by Phyllis A. balch, cnc and James f. balch, m.d. They have a section on anxiety.
I use to be on paxil for anxiety, but it never cured it or made it better, i would still have 10-20 panic attack per month. Then I switched my diet, and read the section of this book, and took the supplements. Now I rarely need to take the supplements, a doctor in the ER one night stated that my anxiety was causing half of my "symptoms". Heart palpation’s was a major one, which they did put me on beta-blockers. You need to know that your anxiety is causing your heart to palpitate. Doctor explained it as a tea pot on very high heat with a top that won’t come off. Sooner or later you need stop, take a breath, tell yourself nothing is physically wrong with yourself (even though you have the symptoms, numbness, a feeling that everything is surreal, heart palpitations, etc.). The doctor stated that it won’t work right away, but if every time you have a panic attack you talk yourself through it, and tell your self nothing is wrong, take deep breaths, after about 20 or more times, your attacks and durations decrease. Soon, you’ll rarely have them anymore. Good luck my friend, contact me if you have anymore questions.
I don’t use drugs. Please help. Any book titles are welcome.
Change the environment and your responce to the environment.
lessen stress with meditation, breathing and self talk – can help.
Identify the triggers that cause the panic attacks. Something may set you off like crouds, the thought of public speaking etc.
hope this helps
I already went through two panic attacks recently during which I had to be taken into hospital. Whenever I am experiencing those panic attacks I feel like I am going insane there is fear inside me that makes me tremble and makes my whole body cold. i hyperventilate and experience pains in some areas of my bodies, chest especially. My heart so fast that it feels like it is goign to rip a hole through my chest.
I need to know if there are any available "home made" treatments. And what is there to prevent them.. as well as what can I when I get a sudden panick attack.
I am taking Ativan and Paxil. I was taking Xanax but it does not work on me any longer.
Let me brifely describe what I think causes my panic attacks
I am in BAD finanical situation which creates lots of stress. I am working in a stressful evnironment. Recently, I am expriencing anxiety and I do not want to deal with many people and just want to be left alone.
Help, please.
I use to have bad attacks. I was given Topamax I believe when I was younger. Then a few years ago I was on Klonopin, then later Valium and Xanax. I think Klonopin was the best. The ER doctor told me to avoid caffeine and to rub my neck when I have an attack. I was on a plane the other day and had a slight attack. I was freaking out but I just looked around and told myself it would pass and it eventually did.
