I began to have problems with dizziness, heart palpitations and generally feeling weird around four months ago. I went to the doctor and he assured me that I was suffering from panic attacks. At first the weird dizzy feelings were really unsettling and although I don’t feel as though I’m going to collapse and die anymore I still often feel weird as if everything is surreal at times as well as having a quick heart beat quite often. Is it normal for this to last as long? And how can I stop this fully? I also suffer really bad hangovers whenever I drink now which came about when the panic attacks began. Is there a link here? Finally does being a smoker make any odds?
Answers to any of these questions would be greatly appreciated.
To be honest it doesn’t sound much like panic attacks at all.
I have been having panic attacks lately and I have been having back pains. I want to know if back pains are a symptom of panic attacks. Also does anyone know of a way to treat or to completely get rid of panic attacks?
Panic attacks can cause all sorts of pain.
Chest pain, leg pain, whole body pain.
So yes I think back pain can be from a panic attack, but you really need to see a doctor and perhaps have some tests performed to rule out anything serious.

Hi.
If your panic attacks aren’t there for months at a time, and then are, they probably have more to do with hypomania than panic disorder. If you always have panic attacks regardless of your mood, then you may have a comorbid panic disorder. Even if that’s it, if they are much worse now and you are sleeping less with other signs of hypomania, it may be a sign that you are not stable. In any case, talk to you doctor. If this has picked up a lot recently, then call and get an appt sooner than later. No point dealing with it longer than necessary.
So I am not prone to a panic attack. But I have a few friends who told me they have had them once or twice. I have one friend in particular who says she may get one under certain circumstances.
My first question is: what is the medical deffinition of a panic attack?
2. What are the symptoms what should an on looker like me look for?
3. What can an on looker like me do to help the person suffering from the attack?
4. How bad can it get before urgent medical care is needed (i.e. 911, Emergency room, etc.)
5. What can I expect to set off panic attacks in other people?
panic attacks are complicated and generally not associated with one particular thing/activity (although, after someone has a panic attack, they begin to subconsciously associate it with the event). General symptoms include but are not limited to: "heavy chest", diziness, tight throat, feeling out of breath/unable to breath, restless feeling within, heart palpitations and other less common symptoms. As far as medical care – it’s not necessary – although it is VERY scary for the person dealing with the panic, they are in no physical danger (unless driving or performing an activity which can cause injury). The best thing for you to do is STAY CALM. The last thing someone with a panic attacks wants is for someone around them to get all worked up. Be reassuring and continue telling them that "it’s just panic, you can’d die from it" and that "it will go away". I had daily attacks for years before i decided to take medicine for it (zoloft, although there are many good meds out there for panic).

For a while now, I’ve had classic panic attack symptoms, but no panic attacks (well, i can bet i’ve had few and just didn’t know that they were panic attacks). A while, actually, meaning a few months (since I started practicing for my first solo voice recital).
I’ve had a shortness of breath, random pains (chest area especially–but not just heart area), nausea, and just plain exhaustion, palpitations/rapid heart beat and shaking. But not all of them all at once.
So my question is, can you have panic attack symptoms with just a high anxiety level? And how long do the symptoms last?
Oh, and I had a panic attack last night. ):
i also get pannick attacks sometimes.. and i do have a bit of anxiety. I only usually get them when something stresses me out or something upsets me. they are horrible i know and i myself arent too sure about how long the symptoms last. but when you do have a pannick attack just make sure to stay calm and think about everything that makes you happy in life, also let someone know immediately so they can be there to help you. if you have depression or anxiety you should either talk to a loved one about it or go see a counsiller, it will really help =) and remember you are not alone, stay safe =)
thanx
My gradual symptoms were feeling of intense rage or fear, followed by my neck tightening, my heart racing, and palms sweating. I never addressesd these problems, so I had panic attacks shortly after. They are feelings of severe fear (no obvious reason for me), tingling all over, rapid heartbeat, nausea, diarrhea, headache, you name it. I felt as if I was having a heart attack or was dying of some dreadful disease. Finally, my dr. did all the necessary tests (Echocardiogram, thyroid, and full blood panel) and there was nothing wrong with me. It took a while to accept it was anxiety, but I was put on Lexapro and Xanax and now, a year later, I am so so much better. Researching books about anxiety and panic attacks has helped tremendously, along with seeing my psychiatrist. Good luck.
Panic Disorder
This disorder is marked by the presence of repeated panic attacks: sudden feelings of terror that appear with physical symptoms like rapid heartbeat, sweating, palpitations, shortness of breath as if suffocating, dizzy or light-headedness, numbness or tingling in the extremities, nausea, and visual distortions.
During these attacks sufferers often fear they will have a heart attack, faint, lose control, go crazy, or even die. The attacks begin to subside within 10 minutes but anxiety usually persists longer.
Some of the attacks appear “out of the blue” which leads to a generalized fear of more attacks, but some situations may reliably trigger the attacks.
Over time, people often begin to avoid the situations where they have experienced previous attacks. This can develop into Agoraphobia, an avoidance of situations from which escape may be difficult.
As this disorder grows it can become severely disabling often limiting people’s abilities to travel or even leave their homes.
The good news is that panic disorder is highly treatable. With medications, cognitive behavioral therapy, or both, the sufferer is soon on the way to recovery.
Remember you are never alone.
